Cape Blanco Oregon - Southern Oregon Attractions

The southern Oregon coast is generally undeveloped and quite rugged. It features many small towns that still hold some of their logging and fishing flavor, though both industries have had hard times lately. There is a state park or wayside about every five miles, many with camping facilities.

The southern Oregon Coast enjoys a much sunnier climate than the north coast, so camping there can be more fun. The area around Brookings is particularly considered a banana belt.

Cape Blanco is a favorite spot for watching the gray whale migrations, and dozens of charter boat operators up and down the coast will take you out for a closer look. The whales will sometimes swim close enough to a small boat to let you reach out and touch them. In whaling days the gray was one of the most dangerous to hunt, but now that they are a protected species the gray whales haven't killed anyone in decades.

The Mill Casino at Coos Bay is another Indian casino. It's right on the waterfront. They book some pretty good musical acts there, so check the entertainment schedule.
