Woodland Safety Tips
Fight wildfire risks
Area homeowners need to be most concerned about a perimeter of 30 - 50 feet around their home.
In the area surrounding your home:
1. Prune tree limbs to about 6 feet from the ground. This can keep a ground fire from spreading up the tree.
2. Sweep away debris from roofs, gutters, under and around decks and away from your home and outbuildings.
Embers can ignite in a pile of leaves next to the foundation and catch the building on fire.
3. Mow down dry grass and weeds in the spring. By waiting a few weeks too long, your mowing can
be a fire hazard itself.
4. Keep the area properly maintained and cleaned up.
5. Watering plants and shrubs will keep them less vulnerable to fire hazards and the potential for problems.
